課程概述

This is a course in English rhetoric, which is the basic college writing course in the UK and the US. In the first semester, we first concentrate on pre-writing strategies (for finding the best topics, outlines, contents, drafting, etc.), then we study and practice several fundamental strategies of writing nonfiction essays, such as description, narration, process, etc.

課程目標
The aim of the course is to train the students how to plan and write well-organized essays in English.

課程要求
This is a writing course. The fundamental requirement is to write each of the 9 composition assignments. I will correct the compositions; compositions with many grammatical errors and poor organization must be rewritten. I provide class time for writing. If students choose to write out of class, they must turn the papers in on the same day. (I have a mailbox in the 視聽館.) The composition should be turned in to me on time. Points will be deducted for lateness; the late assignments must be completed within the month they are due. Compositions will not be accepted the following month. Attendance is very important in this class. Points will be deducted for unexcused absences. Grading is based on mostly on student compositions. Points will be deducted for absences, late and missed assignments. Class participation is important.
